LOCKDOWN LANDSCAPE

Alison Dunhill's Lockdown Landscape exhibition was held at the Fermoy Gallery, King's Lynn, Norfolk, in October 2021.

During the various stages of lockdown imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020-2021, one small compensation was, as Dunhill put it, "the gift of time - time to appreciate and enjoy the flourishing of the natural world, the beauty of birdsong, the peace and quiet as so much human activity came to a pause."

Capturing the landscape in and around her home territory, the historic town of King's Lynn and the ebb and flow of the tidal River Great Ouse, Dunhill created a new body of work, her response to the changed and changing world.

These 20 canvases, of varying sizes from 30 x 30 cm up to 100 x 140 cm, painted with acrylics and mostly without brushes, are reproduced here. Many were painted outdoors, some alla prima, often at the same spot from different aspects and at different times of day.
